Meeting of December 16: The speaker was Tom Byrne, Environmental Coordinator for the Cargill Corn Milling plant in Dayton. Tom described how Cargill's corporate philosophy on the environment affects all aspects of its operation: that their ongoing success requires taking care of the environment. By setting goals for constant improvement in factors such as greenhouse gas intensity, renewable energy, and freshwater efficiency, and many other areas, Cargill is an industry leader in caring for the environment. Concern for the Dayton area's freshwater aquifer is a high priority, as well as a "zero landfill" policy in the handling of waste. In 2011 Cargill received the Dayton water award from the Dayton Water Roundtable for its water usage policies. |
J&J Catering says goodbye: As reported last week, John and Joyce of J&J Catering, who have provided the food service for Shiloh Grille for the past year are leaving to start another establishment. They have provided excellent lunches with a lot of variety, and have given us great service. We will certainly miss the good food, friendly atmosphere, and their smiling faces. The December 16 meeting was their last time to serve our group. President Alan presented them with a "Thank You" certificate on behalf of the club, and we all wished them well in their future endeavors. They promised to let us know when and where their next enterprise will be. |
