Speaker at July 22 Meeting: Steve Moore of Baker Hazel & Snider Funeral Home spoke to the group. He described the breakdown of basic costs involved in a funeral into three categories: 1) Services (embalming, preparation, cremations, use of facilities, etc.), 2) Merchandise (caskets, etc.) and 3) Cash advances (grave digging, flowers, newspaper notices, etc.). He then stressed the importance of thinking ahead to the advantages of prepaid and preplanned funerals, and in "spending down" estates in preparing for the possibility of needing medicaid. He mentioned that prepaid arrangements for a burial space are not regarded as resources in applying for medicaid. For more information visit the Baker Hazel & Snider website at www.bakerhazel.com.
Welcome Bob: It was great to see former member Bob Puckett who visited at the July 22 meeting. Bob is a past president and has been a member of Dayton View Optimist Club, Dayton View/Kittyhawk Optimist Club, and Northridge Optimist Club. Bob has been living in Florida for the past several years and keep busy with his golf game. He is also President Alan's father in law.
Firefighter Phil: Each year our club has sponsored an ad in the "Firefighter Phil" publication. This is a coloring book that is distributed to Harrison Township elementary schools to help teach kids about fire safety. Kelley Dahn, representing the publisher of the book, attended the meeting and presented President Alan with a certificate of appreciation for last year's contribution. The club will be sponsoring an ad in the publication again for the coming year.
Club Shirt Orders: Twelve members have submitted orders for the new club shirts so far. Orders will be taken through the end of this month to make sure everyone has a chance to order. Pictures of the shirts and the design are shown on this website on the Forms & Reports page. Sizes are S, M, L, XL, XXL, XXXL, 4X, and 5X, in either a men's or ladies' style.
Golf Outing: Don't forget to utilize the materials on this website for promoting the golf outing and approaching potential sposnors and donors. At the July 15 meeting we discussed the possibility of using insulated travel cups (with a club logo) as a give-away item at the golf outing. This could also be a good item to use as a gift to our speakers. Costs and styles will be reviewed.
